Tom Pernice Jr Swing Analysis

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

Your leader going into Sunday’s final round at the Buick Open is Tom Pernice Jr. This isn’t a CBS swing vision but was taken from the 2007 US Open at Oakmont, the par 3 8th hole, looks like Tom is hitting a 3-wood.

First thing you’ll notice is how bent over he is over the ball. On his backswing, he takes the club really shallow, almost like a baseball swing. Finally, you’ll see a lot of movement in his legs and he really shifts his weight from right to left through his shot. You’ll get a lot of low line drives and a right to left draw with a swing like Tom’s.

Get Off My Golf Course

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

Classic scene from the movie, “Falling Down”, with Michael Douglas. This is the part where Douglas walks through the golf course and the old guy tells him, “Get off my damn golf course!!”. It’s really funny, and the movie is great.

Wie’s Wrist Goes South, So Does Her Game

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

After a horrendous first-round 82 where she said that she was just as close to shooting 69 as 82, Michelle Wie decided to call it quits on her 8th hole during her second round on Saturday at the Women’s US Open.

Nothing really surprises anymore when it comes to Michelle Wie. Is her wrist really hurt? Maybe. Could it be more to do with her 17-over par and 146th out of 155th place? Maybe.

So, where does Michelle go from here? Not really sure. But she won’t be contending at any tournaments anytime soon, that’s for sure.

Surprise, Surprise, Furyk Leads

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

Funky swing and all, Furyk takes the lead.

Well, well, it should be no surprise to see Jim Furyk with a share of the lead at 10-under with Scott Verplank lurking nearby. Kenny Perry is also one of the leaders after shooting a 63 in his second round. The cut was set at 3-under par. The Women’s US Open is a complete mess with the delays. Some finished, some tee’d off, some didn’t hit a ball all day. Not much else to say there. Jump on the link for my thoughts for the rest of the weekend.

Kenny Perry Iron Swing Vision

Friday, June 29th, 2007

Kenny Perry had a fantastic round today at the Buick Open. Today, we take a look at his iron shot from late last year.

As you can see, Kenny takes the club up really steep and he doesn’t appear that he shifts his weight much on both the backswing or after he hits the ball. He brings it down while keeping a really upright posture and on impact, he really comes down on the ball and his divot is well ahead of the ball. Also notice how far back he places the ball at address.

When you watch him play live, you’ll also notice that the tempo of his swing is very slow and steady.

Wierd N Wacky US Open

Delays, darkness, round one incomplete, (Scott Halleran/Getty Images)

Today was crazy for deadlines so I’ll keep this short with my thoughts.

Women’s US Open

Wacky crazy day. Lorena Ochoa is in contention, Angela Park leads. Michelle Wie shoots 82, but the real shocker of the day was Karrie Webb and her 83, wow.

They didn’t finish the first round, there was a 3.5 hour delay but no rain, then darkness. They’ll start at 7:30am tomorrow to try to get back on track.

Buick Open

Rocco Mediate has the lead at 8-under. Jim Furyk and Scott Verplank are not far off at 6-under, tied for fifth. My pool picks are looking good.

Love the 17th hole, I can’t wait for someone to nail a hole-in-one and win the Buick Lucerne they have sitting in that pond there. Just a beautiful hole.

Golfing Under The Influence

Drinking and golf usually produces stupidity like this

NOTE: Office readers beware, some F-bombs in this one.

Woody Austin Swing Vision

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Woody Austin is one of the leaders after the first round at he Buick and here is a look at his swing from the St. Jude Classic which he won a few years ago.

A very classic swing, hips and shoulders are mostly moving together. One think you’ll notice about Woody though is he keeps his arms and hands very close to his body on impact. You would think he would lose speed on the downswing by doing that.

Women’s US Open Preview

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Which Lorena will show up this week?

Tomorrow is the start of the biggest tournament annually for the women, the US Open. Now this is a USGA sanctioned event and so it’s not LPGA. In any case, lets see who could take the trophy on Sunday.

Jim Furyk Swing Vision

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Whether you like his swing or you think it would “make Ben Hogan puke” as Johnny Miller would say, Furyk remains one of the most accurate drivers and wedge players on Tour.

Which is why he is the overwhelming favorite at this week’s Buick Open.

Fishing For Your 3-Wood

If you throw your 3-wood into the drink, you better be prepared to fish that thing out.

Golf to Gangs, or Golf for Gangs

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

A program being run through SUNY will give kids in gangs in the NY area the opportunity to learn about golf instead.

I’m always skeptical about these kinds of programs, and even more so when it’s golf. It’s one thing if it’s basketball for football, but what are these kids going to do once they finish the program? It’s not like they’ll be able to afford a $1000 set of clubs and weekend tee offs at the local CC. Hell, I can barely afford to do that.

These kids will most likely go back to gangbanging and will instead use their drug-running money to terrorize your foursome. Ya, ya, call me Mr. Negative, I just see things the way they are.

Buick Open Preview

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

No Tiger? No Problem.

A tournament synonymous with Tiger Woods will be void of Tiger this week. Obviously, that will affect attendance and viewership this year. The bad news for tournament organizers keeps on getting worse as players keep dropping out like flies like Vijay Singh yesterday. By the end of this thing, there won’t be anyone left to win this thing. Anyways, jump on the link to find out my what my Yahoo! fantasy picks are.

Crocodile Hunting

I think it’s safe to say that if the crock eats your ball, take your drop and play on. Apparently this guy doesn’t think so…
