Australian Leads the Pack at Sony Open, and It’s Not Ogilvy
The weather looked decidedly not Hawaiian today at the Sony Open in Honolulu. Everyone was in rain gear off and on during the round. Still, it’s Hawaii and warm. It’s below zero in the some parts of the US right now.
Tom Pernice, Jr and Zach Johnson both made tremendous gains today shooting a 7 under and 5 under, respectively at the Sony Open. Both Pernice and Johnson were in 24th place after the first round, and now Pernice is sitting at second and Johnson is now tied for fifth. Of course, one good day does not guarantee a top place finish, but it sure doesn’t hurt.
Topping the leaderboard is Australian Nathan Green. He shot a four under today to move ahead of Maruyama and Ogilvy. I’m watching him on Golf Channel right now, and he just said to prepare for the Sony, he went fishing. Ok, I can try that…
Also, I notice he is wearing a green shirt. Does he always wear green?
Steve Marino also moved up the boards a bit. Geoff Ogilvy took a bit of a dive, hitting a one under today. I know, that sounds bad, huh? I’m giving him grief over a score I’d sell a child for. Jerry Kelly also fell apart. And Luke Donald is looking more like Luke Donald.
Those missing the cut include Davis Love III (take that, Yahoo fantasy golf expert), Bubba Watson (take that, me for picking Watson for my fantasy team), and JB Holmes. Yeah, I had Holmes on my team as well.
