Birdies For Byrd

When nobody in the top 20 was left in contention at the John Deere Classic on Sunday, you just knew the finish would be a wild one. With just the back nine remaining, it appeared that Tim Clark had this one in the bag leading by as many as 5 shots at one point. But some bad luck and bad pulls would see his lead disintegrate. Instead, Jonathan Byrd made a late charge and pulled through for his third career win. Afterwards, Byrd said he didn’t think he would necessarily qualify for the British Open so he left his passport at home in Georgia. He flies back home tonight to pick it up and head to Scotland tomorrow.

Elsewhere, Phil Mickelson had a good/bad day at the Scottish Open. He didn’t deserve to win, just too inconsistent, especially with the driver. His putting was good though.

On the LPGA, Se Ri Pak isn’t close to calling it a career. She managed to stave off a hard-charging Morgan Pressel to win the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic on Sunday. I was rooting for Morgan, but despite not winning, she played extremely well all week, more wins will come for her.

Last but not least, Chris Chandler, ex-QB for the Atlanta Falcons, won the American Century Celebrity Championship. I thought Rick Rhoden would hang on, but Chris just shot lights out today.

That’s all folks, next week is British Open week all week, can you feel the anticipation?
