Europe vs. PGA, Europe Loses

Can the European Tour trump the PGA? Don’t bet on it.
The latest talk yesterday and today coming off of the flagship tournament for the European Tour in the BMW PGA Championship was that European Tour executive director George O’Grady claimed to be in conversations from officials in Asia about creating a World Tour that would rival that of the PGA.
First off, there have been numerous counter-reports that officials from the Asian Tour have denied any such conversations with George.
And even if somehow they pulled it off and created one gigantic World Tour, the best players in the world will still play on the PGA. Because the big money is at the PGA and will always be at the PGA. So long as the best players continue to play on the PGA Tour, no other tour in the world can compete.
So while this past week was a slight aberation in that the European Tour actually out-drew the PGA Tour for the world’s top golfers, make no mistake, the PGA Tour is the number one tour in the world. Always has, always is, always will be, no two ways about it.
Look for a breakdown of the Memorial Tournament field tomorrow. I’m out…
