Fedex Cup Week 3 - BMW Championship Preview

Furyk hammers one down the fairway

Is Jim healthy enough to challenge Tiger?

The big news going into week 3 is who’s not here (Phil) instead of who is there. For the third straight week, a top 5 player has decided to skip Finchem’s much heralded “playoffs”. But we gain a couple of players that played hookie last week, namely KJ Choi and Ernie Els so all is not lost. Of course let’s not forget that the PGA Tour itself in Tiger Woods is playing. The course is Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Lemont (IL). The weather is suppose to be inclement so they’ve moved up the tee times. Conditions should be soft and ideal for scoring.

Jump on the link below to see my Yahoo! fantasy picks. In case you’re counting (well, I’m counting), I’ve picked the winner in my pool for 5 straight weeks (OK, Tiger won 2 of those, but still). I’m officially on fire…

A List

It’s the playoffs, so ya, it’s a good field. Phil isn’t here but you still have a ton of solid players to pick from, Tiger, Ernie, KJ, Jim, Vij, etc…

Tiger Woods - Yes, the boring and predictable Tiger. But that’s because he always wins, or nearly always wins. I wrote last week that he didn’t have the killer instinct but Tiger is pissed that he lost to Phil last week and wants to own this Fedex Cup “playoffs” thing.

Jim Furyk - Why Jim you say? He hasn’t done much lately. But Jim has historically done very well at Cog Hill. A half dozen top tens, and a win in 2005 should change your mind. Still unsure if his back is 100%, but when you have Tiger in your pool, you can afford to take some risks here for your bench.

B List

Steve Stricker, Angel Cabrera, Sergio Garcia and Ryan Moore.

Steve is just about the hottest thing in golf right now not named Tiger. Could he have a letdown this week? Yes. But that’s what I said last week and he ripped it up. In the sports betting world, you ride the hot hand until he loses you money, and that’s what I’m doing here. Angel had a nice showing last week, he’s a safe pick for this week, plus he did well at that other BMW Championship, the one in Europe. Ryan Moore is probably the best player out there that hasn’t won a tournament yet (OK, Anthony Kim maybe right there with Ryan). Ryan has everything it takes to win, coming off his injury, he looks primed for a big run.

C List

Carl Petterson and Kenny Perry

The rotunds, Carl and Kenny are my C list picks. Carl has a nice past history here. A few top tens in the last several years including a T-4 last year for Carl, plus he’s had a decent year, not great, but decent. I picked Kenny last week, and he did OK, I’m hoping he can at least do the same.
