Hunter Jumps Out Early

The Hunter was dialed-in today.
Shooting a Canadian Open record 62 on the first day of action, Hunter Mahan got the best of Angus Glen with a 9-under par round to lead all scores. Meanwhile at the Evian Masters, it’s a three way tie between Patty Hurst, Brittany Lincicome and Eun-hee Ji. Jump on the link for more details.
Canadian Open
Hunter continues to have a great string of tournaments here in June/July. He had 3 eagles on his record-setting day today. The guy simply couldn’t miss a shot today.
Vijay Singh was at 3-under and within reach, Jim Furyk was up and down but managed a 2-under round. John Daly had to withdraw due to shoulder pain he’s been struggling with off and on for the past year. Mark Calcavecchia had a decent 4-under round.
Mike Weir was decent and finished at par, he plays too tight when the pressure is on him. Stephen Ames was better, but not by much finishing at 1-under.
I like Hunter and Calc heading into the weekend. I think Vijay can make a run at it as well having won this tournament in the past. Jim is up to his old self, bad Jim - good Jim.
Evian Masters
I watched an hour or so of coverage on the Golf Channel. Michelle Wie did quite well I thought considering her poor play lately, she only finished 1-over. I like Brittany Lincicome’s game, just a real power hitter, much like Karrie Webb. She finished at 6-under and tied for the lead. I think she’ll have a good shot at it by Sunday. Speaking of Karrie, she played well carding a 2-under par round. Annika Sorenstam isn’t fully back to her old self, but had a decent 1-under par round. World number one Lorena Ochoa limped to a par round.
