Rejoice At Low Scores Again

Nobody could catch The Hunter on Thursday.

After a week of over-par scores at Oakmont, it certainly was refreshing to see the pros shoot under-par again. At least now we know that they haven’t forgotten what it’s like to make birdies. And they really ate up the TPC at River Highlands course on Thursday with the leader Hunter Mahan shooting an 8-under 62. Meanwhile in upstate NY, the ladies are playing Wegmans where Christie Kerr is your first round leader shooting a 6-under 66.

Traveler’s Championship

Couple of players in Hunter Mahan and Carl Petterson that I picked on my Yahoo! Fantasy C list sit atop the leaderboard, too bad I couldn’t pick both of them. Hunter was simply outstanding today, you can tell he really likes this course. Can he hang on for the rest of the week? Maybe, I’m about 50-50 on that, though I do feel he’ll finish top ten for sure.

Chris DiMarco played exceptionally well, considering how badly he’s played so far this year. He’s made a putting grip adjustment and a swing adjustment to compensate for a bad shoulder. Kenny Perry, Brad Faxon, Ryan Moore, Joey Sindelar and a bunch more guys are stroking it real well out there. Play was stopped due to darkness and was suspended mid-afternoon with thunderstorms so they’ll finish round one on Friday.

As for my Yahoo! picks, I’m sticking with Carl Petterson for my C List. Justin Rose at 1-under was OK but not great. David Toms is at 3-under and in good position. Vijay Singh is at 2-under. Jerry Kelly at 1-under. So overall, I’m in really good shape.

Wegmans LPGA

Playing with a head-cold, Christie Kerr was magical with her putter today en route to her 66 and the clubhouse lead at 6-under. Thunderstorms also delayed things there so they’ll finish up the round on Friday.

Susann Pettersen is third at 4-under (wow, Tutta is on fire right now coming off her LPGA Championship win).

Lorena Ochoa is tied for fourth at 3-under with Brittany Lincicome and Mi Hyun Kim.

Morgan Pressel and Paula Creamer are lurking at 2-under.

It’ll be an interesting finish for sure. TV coverage is on ESPN2 in case you’re looking for it on the dial.
