Texas Open Preview

Watch out San Antonio, John Daly is in town to rip it up.
Believe it or not, the PGA Tour is still going on. Even without the likes of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk and all the other big names. In fact, during the President’s Cup last week, they played the Viking Classic which was won by Chad Campbell.
This week, they’ll be playing the Valero Texas Open at the La Cantera resort course in San Antonio (TX). The defending champion is a fellow by the name of Eric Axley and the likely winner this week will be another no namer.
The headliner of the event is arkansas native John Daly, though based on his recent outings, it will be a miracle if big JD lasts the entire round. At least it appears that he and wife Sherrie have moved on from the scratching incident.
Chad Campbell is at San Antonio this week, and based on his red hot play last week at the Viking Classic, you’d have to say he is the odds on favorite. Steve Flesch and Heath Slocum are a couple of other top 50 players here this week so look out for them.
A couple of youngsters to watch out for this week include Colt Knost, this year’s US Amateur champion is here after turning pro a few weeks ago and Anthony Kim who is seeking his first win.
The La Cantera resort course is setup to score low, so the winner will probably end up at 20-under at this par-72 couse.
TV coverage will be exclusively on the Golf Channel so if you don’t get it on your cable package, too bad.
