There’s No Crying in Golf

Adam Morrison, one of the great criers of all time.
Upon winning his first tournament since 2001, Steve Stricker was reduced to tears on Sunday following a 2-under round with 4 straight birdies to cap off the week. If you want drama, there’s nothing like watching a grown man breakdown and bawl his eyes out like a 5-year-old over a game. Like when Heinz Ward won the Superbowl MVP or Wayne Gretzky getting traded from Edmonton or all those Dick Vermeil moments. Add Stricker to that list of bawlers who play the crying game.
Well, maybe I’m being a bit harsh, but in any case, congrats to Steve. I thought he’d have to get to 4-under or so, but KJ Choi couldn’t put enough pressure on Steve, especially late. Mark Calcavecchia and Phil Mickelson had great rounds but were too far back to challenge.
Now that the first round of this Fedex Cup thing is in the books, the real deal gets on the way next week when Tiger Woods steps up. Who’s going to challenge him? Does anyone care?
