US Open Looms
I read this article about the pending one week remaining for those on the PGA Tour hoping to not have play the 36-hole qualifier for a spot at Oakmount in this year’s US Open.
Again, that’s what I love about the US Open, it’s a true open tournament in that it is so inclusive, everyone basically must earn their way on to the tournament in one way or another. That is part of what makes it so fascinating as well.

That brings us to Sean O’Hair. By dropping past second spot at The Players Championship, he also drops past the top 50 (79 to be exact) threshold and will now need to play those 36 holes to qualify. O’Hair may have been playing to win (as many of us regular joes would have done), but his reckless play on the 17th hole was inexcusable. As a PGA professional who makes a living on the Tour, a living that is teetering at the moment, he should’ve known better than to let his ego get the best of him. Layup, and make the safe play, the one that lets you keep your tour card and auto-qualify for the US Open.
Later today, preview of the BMW PGA Championship on the European Tour.
