Viva Las Vegas

by Bruno Chu

vegas here we come

Vegas baby, yah!

The fourth of seven fall series PGA events continues this week in Las Vegas for the Frys.com Open. It’s a different setup in that the players will play on two separate courses on the week. For the first two rounds each golfer will play one round at TPC Summerlin and one round at TPC Canyons. After Friday though, they’ll play out the rest of the tournament at the TPC Summerlin. Now that we’re in the fall series, it seems these courses are all set way too easy. After all that complaining about how hard Oakmont was earlier in the year at the US Open, these events seem like pitch and putt.

Believe it or not, there are a couple of well known names worth watching this week. Mike Weir looks to follow up his grand yet meaningless win over Tiger at the President’s Cup with his first tournament win of the year. Also, Scott Verplank is in the field as is long-ball hitter Bubba Watson. John Daly always draws a crowd even if it’s only for a couple or rounds or holes. Do you think that being in Vegas has anything to do with the slightly enhanced field this week??

Since Yahoo!Fantasy sports does not cover the fall series, I’ll just give you my favorites. Obviously I like Mike Weir and Scott Verplank. But Chad Campbell is playing very well and a sleeper for you all is Mark Calcavecchia. Mark can really bomb the ball which I think will play to his advantage this week.

TV coverage will be exclusively on the Golf Channel so if you don’t get it on your cable package, too bad.
