What Has Geoff Ogilvy Been Doing in His Off-Season?
Seriously, this guy is outta control, but good for him. Of course, despite his strong play last week, I did not put him on my fantasy team, because I am an idiot. But come on, most guys put it on cruise control after a win. Not Ogilvy, I guess.
Actually, this is one of those odd weeks in the PGA Tour in which very few Europeans are playing because the European Tour big tourney this week is lucrative Abu Dhabi Championship. So if you look at the leaderboard for the Sony Open, it is almost solidly American players with an odd Australian or Japanese player among the Stars and Stripes.
And speaking of Japanese players, Shigeki Maruyama is leading the field at the Sony Open at Hawai’i with an opening round of 65 (Par is 70). Ogilvy shot four under, as did Boo Weekley, Brian Gay, Webb Simpson (who?) and Nathan Green. At three under, Charles Howell and Luke Donald are off to a good start this season, hopefully as both of them kind of disappointed me last year, fantasy-wise.
There are four other guys at three under and about a gazillion hanging back at 2 under.
So, yeah, a lot of people are bunched up. This weekend should be interesting…
And I will leave you today with some neat-o facts about the Waialae Country Club in Honolulu.
